Leave A Little Sparkle…
Saturday, December 13th, 2014
Every year, around this time, we are faced with so many occasions, holiday parties, shopping dates, gifts to wrap, food to cook, and people to entertain – the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. We’re constantly on GO. We’re thinking. We’re doing. We’re anxious. We’re excited.
And we’re wondering what we’ll receive this year for Christmas. In the midst of all this chaos, our minds are on overdrive to find the perfect gift, outfit, etc. But are we really living in the spirit of Christmas?
Giving and receiving presents may be what our world has created Christmas to be, but there is so much more to the value of giving that I am afraid a lot of us (including myself) have looked passed more than once in our lives.
In the world we leave in, we value gifts based on how much we will be spending, what it took to get the present, and the reaction we see once our family or friends open our gifts. All this is very nice, but we have grown so accustomed to the traditional world of gift giving, that I feel it sort of has lost it’s sparkle in a way.
Yes, Kate Spade handbags and Sephora gift cards (hear me mom?) are always a great gift to give and receive, but at the end of the day, all that every person needs in this world is love.
As 2014 comes to a close, I want us to take the last few weeks of December to be givers of love. And there are SO many ways we can do so.
Call a friend you haven’t talked to in a while. Lend your brother money for his school lunch. Pick up the tab. Write a love note. Pay for a random person’s toll. Buy your boss coffee. Spend a little extra time talking to your mom. Donate to a charity. Put a smile on someone’s face.
Now you may be thinking…these are all gestures I can do anytime of the year…why now? And that’s what makes Christmas so special. It’s the perfect time of year to reflect on these little gestures that actually mean a lot, and see what we have done in the past year. Some of us may do so on a daily basis, others may not. No matter the case, I want us to take this time between now and Christmas to leave a little sparkle and continue to do so throughout the new year.
I want you to join me on this love crusade, and I would love to see how you impact your life through giving. Follow me on Instagram @sparkleingold, and feel free to post any pictures as you spread love to the people around you with #leavealittlesparkle.
Let’s be the givers. Let’s bring on the love. Let’s leave a little sparkle.
